J.K. (Amrish Puri) was a well to do businessman and smuggler. He planned a bank robbery with the help of the bank manager Mr, Mathur (Prem Chopra). Inspector Srivastav (Kader Khan) got wind of the clues and collected proof against J.K. and Mr. Mathur . But, they use their intelligence to trap Inspector Srivastav on the charge of taking a bribe. He then gets jailed and after coming out of jail on bail, commits suicide out of depression. His son Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) decides to take revenge. He grows up and becomes an Inspector to teach them a lesson as the superhero " Shahenshah". Shalu (Meenakshi Sheshadri) is a small time crook and the daughter of Julie (Aruna Irani), an ex - associate of J.K. J.K. wanted to kill her as there would be no evidence left in the earlier bribes case, as she was the person involved in trapping him. Julie ran away and hid herself in the slum areas for a long time. Now, Shalu and Vijay both fall in love with each other. However, when Shalu gets to know that Vijay takes bribes from these criminals she breaks off her relationship with Vijay. She then falls in love with Shahenshah. Now as the story continues, Shalu gets to know about J.K from her mother. She decides to take revenge from J.K. but gets trapped herself. Now, will Vijay rescue Shalu? will he be able to take reverge? As Shahenshah or as Inspector Vijay who is corrupt in the name of law ? A good action flim with Amitabh Bachchan as the hero, after his comeback from politics.
