Din Dayal Sharma (Anupam Kher) lives with his wife and three sons, one daughter in law and wants to get his daughter Rajni (Archana Joglekar), married. But she loves Peter Fernandes (Shekhar Suman) son of Albert Fernandes (Shafi Inamdar) and marries him. Din Dayal's eldest son Vijay (Raj Babbar) is already married to Uma (Rekha) and his second son, Shiva (Ajinkya Deo) gets married to Vasanti (Priyanka) daughter of Jagmohan Das (Chandra Shekhar). His yougest son Vidyasagar (Harish) fails every year. There is a maid, Gangu Bai (Aruna Irani) who is like a member of the family. Everything goes well till Rajni comes back to her father's place after fighting with her husband. Meanwhile Vasanti takes up Vidyasagar's studies and in turn has fight with her husband. Life takes a turn when Uma is off to her mom's place for her delivery and Vijay starts giving less money as salary to his mother, Godavari (Seema Deo). Arguments follow and the house is divided by a line into two, with Vijay and Uma with their child on one side, and the rest of the family on the other. Uma then resolves the problems and in the end.
