Bharat (Manoj Kumar) is an honest clerk working in the defence department. His father ( Ashok Kumar )'s ailing condition gets worse. His sister gets raped, his brother arrested for bank robbery. His elder handicapped brother is depressed & lives in utter hopelessness. All these unfavourable conditions & Sneha (Rekha)'s evil motives make Bharat believe that only money & more money can improve their condition. So he joins Vijay Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor)'s gang. When Bharat's father finds that Bharat is a traitor, he can't take the shock & dies of a heart-attack. This makes Bharat believe that he is responsible for his father's death, for which he decides to surrender. Mr.Khan (Rajendra Kumar) asks him to abandon Vijay Kapoor's gang and work for the country. When Vijay Kapoor finds this out he tries to kill Bharat. But Bharat escapes and manages to shelve the operation Red.
